A small update
Okay, so as many of you know this year has been my very first competition year with Denny & Dunipace. Back in May ( i think ) i started this thread and i thought it was time for an update.
Back then, i was coming from a non-competition street band into a g4b band. Although i had good teachers where i was, they had not prepared me for what we play in competition today, they still stuck to the "mummy daddies are all" and "single strokes fit into everything!" type of drumming which doesnt exist in pipebands today. So i admit, i found it hard. Also the band i am in went through some tough stages this year, we lost alot of good players to the G2 band, but this after all is what we are - a feeder band to the big boys!
After a really crap season start, things started to look up. We actualy won something, this actualy made me think "you know, maybe competiton bands aint bad after all" and i think that that was when i finally started to put my all into what i was doing in the g4 band at denny. Once i did that, i think so did the rest of the band so we started to have a good season in the minors - taking two firsts, one second and two thirds (i think). We also qualified for 2 majors and got a prize for one.
Also the social side became better - i actualy started to make friends in the band (i think that could have been part of the problem in the first place) and i actualy have something to do at competitions now! I also get to see some "questionable" people who come upto me just after i've played and say things like "am here to boot yer hoop" wonder who that is
so i guess the point of this thread was to really update people from may. Do i still feel the same as i did back then? Hell no! Would i ever go back to what i did before? Hell no! Do i want to go to practices now? Yes!
Methinks competition bands are for me, and i think i'm here to stay.
K.. soppy story over.... peebles next... richard........ yer goin down

Thank you for the update, Robs!! I LOVE soppy stories and happy endings! With that said.... Richard, please boot Robbie's hoop for me when you see him again. I'm still a little hurt that he left without telling me bye.

Not a soppy story at all Robbie. Honest, truthful and real.
I am really glad that you are making new friends and that your journey in the world of pipe bands will continue.
Well done so far and the best of luck for the future.

Robbie....
I get the distinct impression that you are one of those rare people who can excel at anything.....if you put your mind to it.

WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO RON??
I feel quite sick with this level of niceness towards Ruby cut it out......
Only joking Rubes enjoy the competitions you win and forget the ones you should have won..

Ahm Filling up???
Can only agree with what the others have said Robbie, I had the distinct pleasure of meeting you at Birmingham, and it was indeed a pleasure.
Always great to hear of someone who at last has seen the "LIGHT"
