Hi French piper...yip...I had the great privledge of being a very good friend of George Kilgour..and I have to say it was George who took me under his wing and spent a lot of time guiding me through the trials and tribulations of piping....with brother Bob..what else could I have asked for..regarding tuition..George with his brother ,Robert Liddle Kilgour were both in the Scots Guards, Robert becoming Pipe Major of the 2nd Battalion..(check out the photos in Scots Guards book 1)..George becoming Pipe Sergeant..George was apprenticed as a boy to Robertsons Bagpipe Maker and it was in this style that George continued, his first shop in Edinburgh was in Montrose Terrace.(where I spent many a happy day),with "Rusty" the wee Cairn Terrier..then George moved up to Strathspey...to become "Kilgour of Strathspey"..Bagpipe Maker..he then moved out to New York..working for Charlie Kron...famous US maker..!on his return he moved into a shop in Grove Street ,Edinburgh..but never really was as busy has down at Abbeyhill..!!but his Intstrument was always first class....as was his product...so you have a quality pipe!!I owned a Ivory and Silver set at one point..but sold them on ..(as you do...!!)..I reckon your Instrument would be..made around...1970..75...Sadly George passed away some years back ,a great loss to the Piping World...I for one will always be indebted to George and Bob..for their help...in my Piping career...

Well...if they are in need of repair..unfortunatley..cost does not come into it,,,!!it has to be done...can
I suggest you parecel up the Instrument..and post them of to a reputable Bagpipe Maker here in Scotland
for a full "health" inspection...they will cost accordingly...!!! try Pipe Major Brian Donaldson..(ex Scots Guards)
Inveran Bagpipes...("google" them..).who will I am sure make and repair the components needed..and give you back
a playable..Bagpipe...

I take you have not bought the set yet,

I have no idea of what they may be going to cost you, but, before you do buy, look into the following,

1. Postage costs from you to the repairer, and back again.

2. The costs of repair, I have never seen imitation ivory that has been satisfactorily repaired, the only way to do it is to make a new mount, then clean the old ones to match the colour of the new one, and hope that the repairer has gotten a similar imitation ivory that will colour at the same rate over time,

3. Repairs needed to the blackwood, especially the blowpipe, more money,

It may be more economical to buy a set of pristine pipes, or at least very good ones, you will save money, save time, have less hassle, and have a more original instrument as well
