Trying to get back into it!!
A read through this may help.....
http://www.pipingconnections.org/banter-bar-f9/it-s-a-funny-old-world-t1177.htm
It's very difficult to tell Mrs Stormy where to go at times and when she has dancers performing at George Square, Glasgow on St. Andrews Night and is looking for a piper what do I do?????
A new Troy reed has been inserted into the Sinclair chanter and I'm struggling to keep the animal going without a "choke"!!!!!!!! I think it has something to do with age and lack of practice!!
The pipes are in better nick than me!
I'll keep you informed of my progress.
Anyone got a copy of the "scale" I could use to refresh my memory??

Re: Trying to get back into it!!
Stormy remember most tunes have too many notes anyway, so just play the ones you like. It will be easier then. Also the drones make a very nice note that will give you a break.
"Scale", isn't that what I stepped on this morning to tell me I eat too much?

Re: Trying to get back into it!!
Pipes are sounding better than they have for a year or so.
"Hard" strength Troy reed in my Sinclair and a wee bit of sanding, licking and squeezing and tonight they are finally coming together.
Bloody hard work but hopefully worth the effort.
Been playing for about 20 - 30 mins. twice a week.

Re: Trying to get back into it!!
The gig was on Sunday night at George Square.
The temperature was approx minus 3 degrees!!
Played the Fling, Swords, S/Trews and Reel.
You could see the breath from the dancers as they danced, it was friggin freezin!!!!!
Quite a few screeches and skirls from myself but I put it down to the cold.
Apart from that the pipes were not bad sounding and at least I've got a bit of confidence back.
I went into the wrong tune at one point (as you do!) and the dancers just carried on as if nothing had happened. Professionals to the end.
Great big cheer from the massive crowd at the end. They were obviously entertained and at the end of the day that's what it's all about.
Nothing at all gig wise in the pipeline but I will keep them going.

Good news indeed mate,
Regarding fingers, I look at the music, and then decide what i'm going to leave out!!
Works for me, but eventually i'm not going to get away with only playing 'G' grace notes
Tell me,
Did you go for the plastic bag and reeds in the end?

Since I left the SPPB in 1994 I've played a Goretex bag (not a zipped type) and Eezeedrone reeds. Never had any problems once I got used to the set up and feel for the bag.

Stormy was great on Sunday night. George Square was" jumping" on Sunday. He overcame the freezing cold and his lack of confidence and did a brilliant job. Really proud of him.

I was invited to attend a local bands practice nights when I was at George Square.
Unfortunately my band days are over and I'm happier just playing myself.
Yer wee chat and pm's did help and I fully intend to keep playing. Maybe next summer
will see some weddings with a decent piper. (I'll pass any enquiries onto you!!! )
