Nice one Fiona, good clip. The band had their critics ( maybe not so much the band....but the reasons behind it.) myself included, but hats off to 'em. They done what they set out to achieve.
Would be good to see 'em stick it out, now they have overcome the initial hurdle they all know what's to come.
Good luck fer 2009.

Has anyone heard if they are going to do it again for 2009? I asked the question on BDF and a couple of people said they might be going to the North American Championship's in Maxville.

I hear you, that would be pretty cool if they did make the trip! Oh SPPB, have you heard anything new on their front? I hope they survive the crap that's being thrown at them.Redneck wrote:Last I heard on the grapevine they were Reid. Interesting choice, I guess if you can might as well check out as many different contests as possible.wee_fee-Fee wrote:Don't think they are going to Worlds Iain. Last I heard just Maxville.

So they just want a trophy and know they have no chance at the worlds!!
My ideas are "old fashioned" but if you want to win G1 at the Worlds the band, ALL the band, must have a minimum of two practices per week and during the week before the "big day" ALL the band should have a practice EVERY day.
A practice is not tuning up, but going for it for real as if it was the actual competition.
Even if I could find a "bookie" who would take my money...I'd spend my money at the beer tent!!!

, am wi Stormy on this one. Pity really, ad a liked to have heard 'em. Seen if they'd improved their overall sound / approach.
Who's to say they'll win there?.............depends on who turns up eh?, if there is a boycott of the worlds ( which I doubt ) they'd make Maxville their biggie.
@Reid, sorry m8, all quiet on the western front, a good reliable source is the Editors blog @ Piping Times. He'd doin' a grand job.

Re: The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band
Not that many grade 1's over this year. Toronto are at Lorient and with the Clan broke up and not much hope for Dysart the grades getting smaller.

Re: The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band
Toronto were not here last year , Dysart didnt get out last year and Fife Police have replaced the Clan so it really just the same !!! 2 bands up Torphican and Bagad no downgrades so net 2 up so really the grade is growing !!! slowly but deff growing
G2 will also be interesting L&C have a new Pipie with realtime experience in G1
Clydebank have jumped into G2 and came on leaps and bounds both playerwise and musically also beeing led by a Pipie with good G1 experience !!!

Re: The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band
Yer wrong Rich Fife Polis were out last year and done well qualifying for the worlds in their first year. Toronto were over last year to but didn't make the final and the Spirit of Scotland not making an appearance either so the grade will be less than last year. I'll forgive you though LoL

Mark's (Chiddy) wee bro Craig was up at them (tenor drummer) after leaving Fife Polis to go there and they were struggling for members and told him they aren't out this year so he might be making an appearance at Kinross band
