YES YES YES YES
Why is this so good?
Surely competition bands should compete, not just cherry pick contests at the bottom of their street.

Gets to me this, they say we moan because a contest is held up north a Scotland, yet they can't travel to one over here.
We travel 4 TIMES A BLOODY YEAR.
Fack sake one shooting incident 'n the whole a Scotland has an excuse not to come to a Major in N.Ireland..................." Well let me tell you this................Ulster is safter than partsa Scotland "
RANT OVER..............their loss. We'll just pay fer our trips 'n beat 'em on their home turff.
That could be another reason too, why pay all that money da go get stuffed?.

I agree with Iain - I keep saying this beast is growing and is trying to be held back by the few who cant walk the length of themselves -
Same comments are spoken when its suggested that the Worlds should be over 2 days 'oh no-one will go for that '

Re: Grade1 Withdrawals ( Banbridge )
One of the things I enjoyed most about playing was being able to travel to the various places for competitions. It was all part and parcel of being PART of the scene.
And we did not have the same amount of opportunities as now, wait till you are no longer involved and have to sit back and read and listen to the build up of people attending Comps? then you will realise what you miss when not attending the various settings.

Blooming heck i didnt expect that kind of response!!!!!
Honestly i didnt make the decision....I assume the committee did.....unfortunalely the band just cant finance it this year, but it gives us something to work on next year........
i am petrified of boats and that is the only reason i am happy about not going.....
means i can save up and get the plane over next year...
just dont shoot the messenger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, not good enough,
Boats hardly ever sink nowadays, you've more chance of getting killed in a car crash getting to stranraer, which is probably preferable to going to stranraer.
To conquer your fear, you must face it, start with a small toy boat in the bath and work your way up.
Easy,,,,

Re: Grade1 Withdrawals ( Banbridge )
ok i will try that..........but apart from the boat issues i was really looking forward to going, holidays booked from work, babysitters in place, money getting saved. pills from the doc to get on the boat and the threat of getting carried aboard by other band member.......
now i only see 1 little problem with ur suggestion about the boat thing,,,,,,i dont have baths,,,can i try it in the shower?????

Ferry's... theyre like feckin roads... hardly feel them moving compared to sail boats!
and i agree with gordy and iain, i love the trips with the band. It gets ye a chance to see all yer m8s, but most of all it gets you to compete aginst people who cannot make it over to scotland.
oh aye.... 'n the banter is class

Oooops........I wasn't getting at you darlin'.. , I was using that example of a generalisation.
Heard it more than often in the beertent at the worlds.
Good point, band can't afford it. Neither can we, but we always have funds in reserve to ensure we can hit as many majors as possible.
Here's an example.
Drumlough Band Hall 19th June, Ulster-Scots Society presents Dumlough P.B Quartet, Bright Light Highland Dancers and Roy Ferguson & Young Drums. £5 entry.
This wee night is to help raise funds for the Worlds.
Too many bands expect things handed on a plate..........get aff yer butts 'n dae some fund raising, it's a great way of bonding the band even tighter.
Regarding yer Oceanphobia or yer Titanicphobia ( class another two words invented )
just get bladdered 'n thinka Redneck buyin' ya a pint in the Barrington.

I agree with that Ian but i am not sure the band even thought at the end of last year that competing was an option.....with a new Pipe major and a new Leading Tip there was a lot of changes and adjustmtents.....
Now that we all know that is our goals a lot more fund rasing can be done through the winter so that we can go to all 5 majors next year.......
let the world know that dunfermline pipe band is on it way so watch out we is gonna beat u all.........
