RSPBA PROCEDURE UPDATE
INSTRUMENT FAILURE:
In the light of the experience of the 2008 outdoor competition season, the RSPBA Adjudicators’ Panel Management Board has reviewed, in consultation with the Music Board, the guidance given to Adjudicators should there be instrument failure or circumstances which affect instruments during an RSPBA competition performance. The revised guidance, which has been issued to all Adjudicators, is as follows:
In the light of the experience of the 2008 outdoor competition season, the RSPBA Adjudicators’ Panel Management Board has reviewed, in consultation with the Music Board, the guidance given to Adjudicators should there be instrument failure or circumstances which affect instruments during an RSPBA competition performance. The revised guidance, which has been issued to all Adjudicators, is as follows:
“In the event of instrument failure or malfunction during a performance (e.g. burst drum, burst pipe-bag, reed malfunction, broken drumstick etc) which results in a member or members of the band stopping playing, the circumstances should be noted on the Critique Sheet by the Adjudicator and reported to the National Council representative at the end of the competition. In such situations Adjudicators should continue to evaluate the performance taking into account the loss of the player/s or the effect on the performance of the defective instrument. When players continue to play with defective instruments, Adjudicators should take this into account in assessing the performance in terms of tone, band balance, general integration or musical impact. The placing of the band/s by the Adjudicator in the order of rankings should take account of the effect on the performance, if any. Reference to the specific circumstances should be made in the Critique Sheet. The performance should not automatically be placed last.”

Is this a case of covering their backside, following the "incident" at Birmingham last year?

Re: RSPBA PROCEDURE UPDATE
Saw this earlier and thought,
Aye, clear as mud.
An arse covering excerise to be sure.
Refer to the 'National council rep', why ? some of them have never played in a pipe band, they just like the 'Kilty look'
What would they know about instrument malfunction.
I'll tell you how to solve it, Let the Pipe majors in the rest of that grade decide what should be done, at least they'll know the reality of the thing, and can expect similar treatment if they are unfortunate in the future.
That would also serve to temper their views on what should happen

Loada ballix.........passed caring anymore.
Cheers fer that Fiona, am still none the wiser. These things do happen, but still it's a grey area.......£££££££££££'s spent on a fancy dinner to add remove some wording in my eyes is not a revised document.
Arse covering at it's best.

Re: RSPBA PROCEDURE UPDATE
It was read out to us at the last L&B Branch meeting
As one Judge had FMM 1st and the other had them Last i think it just clarifies that the Judges Judge the performance and report it to the NCR for a decision to be made - simply because the Judges didnt want to be landed with the decision !!!! How bizzare !!!!!!!!

Cuz he's in the club
Cuz theres no-one else
Cuz he makes chanters and needs the dough
Cuz he's corrupt
Cuz he's deaf
Cuz he's a fanny
Cuz he's mason
cuz he's unaccountable
cuz he thinks he knows more than we do
cuz he's incompetant
cuz he has a pipe band shop and needs the trade
cuz he has a wee willy
Cuz we are stupid to put up with it
Cuz we love this game, he knows it. and he knows we won't walk away from it
Cuz he needs the expenses money
cuz the RSPBA make a prospective judge jump thru more hoops than a dog at crufts, and most people with a grain of wit lose interest half way through
Cuz he's got a God complex, and wants to be able to influence the lives of people who could tie him in knots when half pished
What worries me is,,,,,,
What do the competant honest judges think of these merchant bankers?
Rich, we need another smiley, fist openly clenched, arm moving in a to and fro movement,
Any more questions?????????
Time for my prozac
cheers
