Toronto Police New Medley...

Not sure about this, they done something similar last season which was nice but very gimmicky. I am all for change in the way bands perform, shaking things up a little for the spectators, takes the edge off the boredom that can sometimes come through a performance, but this is something else!! not sure I like the whole cutting in and out thing at the start, Good for concert stuff but not competition.
Any thoughts?

prefer this one to the one they did last year - nothing overly startling as a musical piece - as you say nice concert medley but competition ????
still like it though

I like it. But i also liked the old one. Not sure if it is competition though. If they bring that here this year... they'll need to put some three pace rolls on to it!

Re: Toronto Police New Medley...
Yeah there was talk of them doing it last year... It would be interesting to see how the judges react to it here, they seem to get away with it in Canada, I think it could be a different story here. I do like it, but, as a concert piece, not a competition medley.
I think its a bit far fetched to be a medley, there has to be a difference between what you play in competition and what you play at a concert.
I'm sure they will argue that they are trying to "shake up the pipe band world" but they are not really shaking it up, bands have been playing stuff like that for a long time, just not on the competition field. Maybe, they should try something different, like, blowing through a tube in to a tenor drum....no....wait that's been done... well, how about, turning to face the crowed in the last tune of their.... no wait.... damn it! that's been done too!! well I don't know but if they want to be different then they should actually be different and not just play concert stuff.

you can watch them here. Two bass drums hehe and the snare drummers use the end of their snare sticks at 3.50m. I can see some judges cringing.

Total garbage!
If this is what pipe band competition is about nowadays then I'm glad to be well rid of it.

Re: Toronto Police New Medley...
I'd love to be judging this,
Only thing is I might possibly offend those with more tender sensibilities,
Play this in a concert if you wish, IMO as a competition piece its total crap.
Change can be a good thing, but change for the sake of it generally isn't

It's complete and utter pish.
As far as I am concerned, anyone that thinks that this is a matter of normal pipe band development and improvement over the ages....should be in the nut house.
Complete and utter drivel.
