@Bondy, Big Frank........wid rate him up wi the wee man 'n Big Ian from the SPPB, excellent sound man.
The best around today IMO, barr none 'n a don't make that statement tongue in cheek either........just listen da the FMM. Parke's is good, but it's not all down da him, just look fer the big quiet guy goin' round in civi's listening da the chanters and doing their drones......that's big Frank.
Frank paid a compliment to us (Drumlough) prior to our All Ireland winning performance ( IMO,best of the year ) well, he never said a thing....he just smiled over at me 'n winked.
That was enough fer me, great guy, gentleman o' few words, but when he speaks be sure to digest every bit of info he says.
This man IMO is a LIVING LEGEND.

I'll never forget first night up at McNielston and Frank pulls this tatty smelly ol reed out of his pocket and say's "found this an reckon it'll suit you rightly!" and he was right. A true gent in the pipe band world, i learnt a load about sound up there, cheseny was still there and acouple of other quality players now with fm, nice little band shame sometimes the playing was not as good as the sound

Iain,
Frank and I listened to you at Antrim or Cookstown, Can't remember which,
He looked at me and said, 'that wee bands a bit too good for that grade',
I agreed, and said something along the lines of they are going well, and he said, 'Aye but listen tio the sound'
He can get sound from very average players, and that is a talent we would all like
Cheers

Sure is m8, we can all get a good enough sound, but as you say not everyone has that little special spark such as the wee man, Frank,Big Ian or even oul John 'n Tom McAllister from Shhhhhhotts, sorry ma finger got a terrible pain typin' that.
Iain McLeod ( Edinburgh Police ) was another I admired too, he also had his own unique pitch and sound, maybe not as robust as say Shotts was, but none the less IMO the fore runner for today's pitch.
Iain McLeod actually wanted to buy the RAMS chanters aff the wee man after judging us in Scotland grade2, ya can guess Tommy's reply......
