Another Birminghan thread
Hi all,
Got home about 8 last night, and was glad to see the sunny shores of Ulster,
Ok, thats enough of that
There has been a lot written so far about grade 1, some good, some bad.
I was talking to a FMM player in the beer tent after we played, and we were second last on, Boghall would have been playing at the time, he said FMM were of the opinion that they were indeed disqualifyed, it was shrugged off as 'one of those things' and thank god it wasnt me, he seemed quite happy he would be getting a day off centre bands next year
I,ve known Richard Parkes for nearly 25 years, I like him a lot, I have an astounding amount of respect for him as a player, PM and a Person, but I don't think I could have played under him.
What happened to him was a shame, but ultimately was bad pipe maintainance, There is a lesson there for ALL of us,
As regards a D/Q, i think they should have gone, as many bands including SLOT in 1999 have had similar problems and been binned, SLOT had the clamp blow off a Ross bag in the worlds qualifying in 1999, happened Killadeas a while ago when a tenor reed fell into the bag.
And being quite selfish about it, a D/Q for FM would have pulled us into 6th, and would almost guarantee us a place in the Worlds final, nice to happen but not nice to get there in that fashion at all, but it is an issue to be remembered for any post from a Ballycoan member
One other rumour that was flying about concerns Scottish Power, it is RUMOURED that the leading tips drum head burst at the line, he got a drum off a corps player, who stayed in the band, walked into the circle and didny play, essentially the same as Parkes. Can anyone confirm / deny, Feefee?
It was a rumour that gained ground on Saturday, whether true or not I don't know, but IF true worthy of discussion.
We, as a band were reasonably pleased with both result and run, although we did have an early E, from a player who obviously did not know his instrument, but after the hoofings we have had at home were pleased to get things on track again.
As for the venue, not good at all, the only time we need to take pipe bands to Engerland, is when we invade them
Poorly supported, although the RSPBA site stated there were 25,000 people there, no offence, but if that is how they count, no wonder they're skint, 2,500 would be closer
Better here or Scotland for sure although it does look like we are going to Belgium next year
All aboard for Ennis

From what I saw of Scottish Power on Sat I didnt see that happening and it looked as if all the drummers were playing and checking the vid on youtube the now. No harm to FM but they didnt deserve the 6th place. Any other band on the day would have been disqualified.

I watched Power? and did not see anything either. agree with you about the numbers Gord? and you were being kind saying 2,500? I spoke to a lot of people locals who knew nothing about it, they just popped in cause they heard the pipes?

The leading tip`s drum did go, there was a "bang" and he swapped it for the corps drummer to the right of him, but the whole corps was playing, cheers.

Thats more or less what i heard, but that he didnt play,
Can a drummer play on a burst head,? I don't know , or can he 'dummy'
IF he didn't, it wasnt too disimilar to FMM,
Keep on disqualifying bands, and shotts should go too for having pink sticks, It'll soon be us and the boggies in the top 3

Aye he was playing m8, you could hear it, well I could, wasn`t so bad as he was in the corps playing the unisons. KP`s drum went during a comp years ago if I remember rightly and he kept going. I think you should disqualify all the players that are better than me so I can get a chance for a change...

The temptation to make a very sarkie comment shall be with held Ian I am sure you cant be that bad??
Can I just apologise to those waiting to see the Vids I took on Saturday, I am having some trouble (With a capital T) trying to get them uploaded to You Tube (Bloody thing)
I have not given up as yet, and have two well qualified Computer whizzes working on it for me
