Its a sad situation that one of the biggest and best pipe bands in the world have been brought to their knees by two people who, simply, don't care much for the whole 'pipe band scene' without even a second thought about the proud tradition of the band and the history that goes with it they have pulled the plug... Its a sad day, just shows how frail the pipe band world actually is. It's not good news for Grade 1 as a whole as there are hardly any grade 1 bands around as it is. I think the RSPBA should at least try to reason with the Police force. Even if they managed to get a 'new' band together, it would surly be too late to register for this season, not only that but, the guys that are not in the force are pretty screwed as well, lets face it, what player is going to walk in to another grade 1 band and learn 2 selections and 2 MSR's in time for the start of the season? Not many...

He's a sound guy who loves the pipes, so a Lord on our side would be a good thing.

Make no mistake. This is a serious move to eliminate the band by people who
have no understanding of the background of the public love of the polis
band. The culture of Scotland is being undermined by this decision
which is not based on knowledge as no reports or meetings or
consultations have been sought. This is not cost based. The band
members have done and are still doing very serious police work the
great majority of its working time with one or two half shifts spent on
practice a week and the rest on police work save for engagements which
over the year form a small percentage of working time and provide great
return in the form of positive feedback for the police image. This is
pure blind prejudice. I would beseech all of you out there to attempt
to save this institution by writing in the strongest terms to the Chief
Constable and MPs and Local government and the Govt of Scotland at
Edinburgh . These people will pass in the night but what has been
destroyed cannot be rebuilt. Had this not happened I would have
predicted a wonderful enhancement of the Competition season by
Strathclyde Police Pipe Band who under DonBradford have put in a very
hard and focused winter's practice with 2 concerts at Frankfurt and
Celtic Connections to set them up as very serious contenders for
honours this year. Get writing NOW before it's too late.

Can you believe that the Chief Superintendent now in charge of the
band, someone called Anne McGuire, has been so petty as to strip the
name from the band unit door? Furthermore she has told the band that
they cannot play at the annual outing for disadvantaged kids put on by
the city's taxi drivers. Two pipers will suffice she says.

What effect if any is this gonna have on the moral of the band members?........what about wee Eric ?.......did they not gi 'im the boot ?, will he still wanna be lead tip after getting shafted?.
