Tunes you love to hate
We all hear about the 'Great ' tunes, and the trendy ones, but what about tunes you really hate?
I'll start with my most favourite hated tune, MRs MaPherson of Inveran
I hate it so much, i wouldn't join a band that played it!

I haven't heard any yet that I just absolutely hate.... but I'm curious, do y'all really hate these tunes, or have you played them so much you've grown to hate them?

Probably a bit of both Katie,
I first played Highland Cathedral in about 1986, at a tattoo with SPPB in Birmingham,
I liked it a lot, but it is now so played out, I have come to dislike it.
But not as much as Mrs MAc

I remember the tattoo in Birmingham, just!! Had a chat with Roy Wood of Wizard fame.
I'm confused though. I first recall playing HC at the Berlin Tattoo in 1989 / 90. I don't remember hearing it before that and I was under the impression that this was the first time the tune had been heard in public.
As for tunes I hate.....most of the crap American bands play on St. Patricks Day!!!!!

Okay Richard, you know that comment is going to require another history lesson on Sunday... (soon I will know more Scottish History than I do American History! LOL)
And for what it's worth, I think Flower of Scotland is a lovely tune!

Re: Tunes you love to hate
add 'My Land' to the list.
Thinking back, there was a time when 'Farewell to Nigg' would have been on my list as well.....were there any bands that didn't play it 75% of the time in the early 80s? (the other 25% being taken up by Dugald Gillespie, Cullen Bay and the Bluebells of Scotland).

I like Highland Cathedral, but I'm sick of playing it as a band tune. I loathe Amazing Grace and Scotland the Brave, along with all the other tunes used here for Mass Bands, or parades, simply sick of them. Particularly Green Hills, so many G4 bands use it to tune up.
Hey Richard, we do a calling of the clans at Ceilidhs, and finish with Flower of Scotland. It gets all the old Scots living here, going every time. A real tear jerker.
