Side Drummers
I see that there is a New Drummers section and a Tenor/Bass section.
Where is the Side/Snare thread? Or has someone forgotten us again...

Re: Side Drummers
Drumming is such a precise and specific gift from the Gods that we have to be specific.
We all answer "aye" to drummer, but the difference is what kind of stick we slap you with when we're wound up.
All three have very different technique. Different written music. Different sound. Never noticed that there are three pitches to the drum sound? No? That's the sad parts for pipers. You miss hearing the sound of the pipeBAND and have to listen only to yourselves.
Our whacking devices make different sounds as do the whackee drumheads.
Just curious. Not trying to stir up anything.
I was looking for the side drummers place and I couldn't find it. I had a side drummer question. Now I forgot what it was. Maybe I'll remember when we have a place.
I'm patient. Okeefenokee wasn't built in a day.
I'm just learning how to do this forum. I thought maybe it was a glitch in my brain and I was supposed to open something that was invisible.
(The only thing we know is what we know that we know. We don't know what we don't know. But there is one part where we know what we don't know. I was hoping that the powers that know knew.)

I have lost count of the number of times I have been involved in this argument but heh ho?? let battle commence yet again.
Firstly Yes Ron you are right, it is a PIPE BAND in other words there are pipes in there somewhere?, but it is a band, which to anyone with any Brains(Okay one step back MARCHHHHHH) that means there are more than just pipe's in the set up?(Still with me?)
And I am surprised at you Tartaniac expecting Mere pipers to realise that you get a different sound from the different drums? :D

Re: Side Drummers
Richard, I just reviewed the sub forums in the drumming and see that you have added the Snare/Side Drummers one for Tartaniac. I can see why you might have omitted it first time around, as they can's seem to decide what to call themselves, unlike we tenor drummers, or the bass drummers... or even the pipers for that matter.Piping Connections wrote:jeeso a drums a drum tae me

The only suggestion I might have is, since this is primarily a pipe band forum, is let's keep the individual forums for our own style and combine the vacant forums of Membranophone and Bongo Drums into one forum called General Percussion, Other Percussion or something like that. We drummers all seem to be quite interested in other similar instruments, a good example being the bodhrán, and if we start adding a forum for each of them, it will get away out of hand. Personally, I am fascinated by the hung (Google it) and would love to have one if they weren't around US$500 per.

Re: Side Drummers
Sorry David you still have to get used to my humour (its a bit wierd at times) Ime sure Dai had a wee chuckle when he saw all the sections but i think he is getting used to me.
I was really trying to confuse Ruby withe the Membranophone I think he will still be looking for cd,s to put in it !!!
I had a look for the hung (your having a laugh m8) i couldnt print here what came up when i googled hung !!!!!
And Dai ive lost count of times ive heard side drummers getting different sounds out of there snare drums (in the same corps)
Anyway my intention was not to upset the valuable backenders but to put in what you valuable musicians required!!!
Thanks for the input Dave and Dave lol

Re: Side Drummers
Isnt it strange? every time Robbie sends me a message, he mentions Sheep? Nobody else does, just Robbie?? I wonder if he really has a penchant for the little furry creatures? I was thinking of inviting him down for a few days? but am rather worried now that he might "Over Indulge" and maybe do himself an injury?
