MG drone reeds
Whilst I know they are not a new product, they are new to me.
Richard was good enough to send me over a set, as they seem to be in short supply over here.
I had been using cane reeds in my pipes, and kept a set of carbon croziers in my box for emergencies, by that I mean wet drones on contest days, always handy to stick a placcy in close to the line if you're stuck.
Over the winter, I use a goretex bag instead of a dead sheep, and consequently use plastic reeds too.
Anyway, I have tried the MG's and found them to be very good so far, easy set up, and a very mellow sound, And not tenor dominant as some can be.
Considering they are at the cheaper end of the market, some sets retailing at over £100!! they look very attractive indeed at around £40.
The body is made of some cotton based material, and is allegedly water absorbant, time will tell. Which, I suppose in theory should draw moisture from the blade.
I will be tying a sheepskin on in 3/4 weeks, so as an exercise will keep them in and see how we get on.
Redneck, I know you really like the Cannings, I tried a set, but didnt like the sound they made when striking in. I did like them when were going though.
cheers

Ime playing cannings just now Gordon - a previous PM decision and they do well for me , but prior to that i really liked the MG,s, if there was an issue then i couldnt get them to stop squaking pre strike in it was weird and annoying
ime also trying Derek Marr (Bannatyne Ltd) in another set of pipes but will need to get them into my own pipes as they sound very mellow, really pleasing on the ear for solo playing but not beefy enough for what ime looking for band sound.

Didn't like wat sound m8 ???????, must be the way ya have 'em set. No need to strike my pipes, they just blow in no probs.
Where as wi the M&G's I found as Richard did they were too squeaky, but once going produced a very good tone, if these issues were addressed it would be a first class product. Bad finish wi the M&G's too IMO.

Re: MG drone reeds
I have a set of MG's in one set of pipes and Omegas in another. I have less hassle with the Omegas but the MG'ss sound OK. I'm with Redneck they do tend to squak a bit pre strike in. For the price they arte good though, but I prefer my Omegas
