Dennis, please educate the uneducated.
When was hemp "new'? Seriously, I just figured hemp had been around since forever. Or is this just an expression like 'since sliced bread'?
Back on the cane reed thing, since trying to play a PC as a kid with a cane reed, and trying to play a PC now with a plastic reed, then plastic P reed would be my choice. But then I'm a drummer, so there has to be hundreds of products out there I know nothing about.
Come on pipers...there has to be something that you wouldn't be with out now.

I tried them for a while, well worth the money. One woodbine was like 6 normal fags.

Re: Best new product for piping.
Back on track again folks.
For me the newest thing I've used 'n am impressed wi is the Ross canister system, yes it's bulky 'n has it's draw backs, but fer me it sure showed up how much wetness there is going to yer reeds.
Now, a wouldn't say a was a wet blower, but the amount of moisture that was in the particles after a days/nights blowing really surprised me.
The product does as it says, however a think they could refine the design a little better ie:- round aff the edges 'n streamline it a bit better too, but on the whole....yip, good job IMO.
Oh aye, the bags gid tae.

Re: Best new product for piping.
Poly chanters are probably a good invention. Now a band can get a matched set of chanters for a fraction of the price of wooden ones. Maybe the sound is not exactly as good but for a lower grade band it's made a lot of difference.

Re: Best new product for piping.
I reckon Doug Wickstroms 'Bagpipe Reader'is up there,
Excellent for building a medly and getting tune ideas, even discussing tune selection, viaMSN etc
Used to play in a band with a Guy called Ben Greeves, Redneck will remember him, he could sight read perfectly, and at tempo for a totally strange piece, a nice gift no doubt.
It was great in the Autumn going through books and him playing it out to you,
Now everyone has the same facility
Cheers

Can I ask a weird question?bondy wrote:The Dremel! LOL
Does anyone know of someone, using one of these to enlarge the holes and actually gone through or damaged the back of the chanter? Or is that almost impossible to do?
I've always wondered.

:flower:Watched the canadian guy T Sloane brought over to RUC go at Sincliars like a man possessed and did not get all the way through holes were huge though. I don't have slim fingers but without tape stuggled to cover the hole fully. It really improves your finger work, untill you leave and go to McNielston under big frank who got sound without dremel!
